Toutunhe attracts Fortune Global 500 enterprise

The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) signed a cooperative agreement with Amer International Group on Sept 12 to cooperate on a metal new materials project, new energy vehicle project and an industrial supporting project.

Amer International Group is a high-tech industrial group driven by a complete industrial chain of new metal materials and non-metallic materials. It is headquartered in Shenzhen and operates trading centers for metal new materials, non-metal new materials, semiconductors, smart terminals, and other commodities.

The group ranked 111th in the Fortune Global 500 in 2018, 5th in the top 500 private enterprises in China, and 2nd in the top 500 manufacturing enterprises in China.

According to the agreement, Amer International Group will invest 20 billion yuan ($2.91 billion) to build Xinjiang Urumqi Xinsilu Industrial Park project in Toutunhe district.

The metal new materials project has a total investment of 8 billion yuan. After completion, the first phase, with an investment of 5 billion yuan, is expected to produce an annual output of 250,000 metric tons of electrified railway overhead conductors and low-oxygen bright copper rods and 100,000 metric tons of precision alloy copper wire.

The new energy vehicle project has a total investment of 4 billion yuan. The first phase, with an investment of 2.2 billion yuan, is expected to have an annual output of 10,000 new energy buses, 50,000 light buses and 20,000 pure electric logistics vehicles.

In addition, the industrial supporting project has a total investment of 8 billion yuan, with the first phase accounting for half of that. It will include the construction of a series of commercial and residential projects, such as the Northwest Headquarters Base of the Belt and Road and the Finance and International Settlement Center.

Wang Ligang, vice chairman of the board of directors and chairman of the Investment Committee of Amer International Group, said the Xinjiang Urumqi Xinsilu Industrial Park is an important part of the group’s industrial layout along the Silk Road and will also serves as a model for the group in broadening its investment and industry distribution in Xinjiang and even Central and South Asian markets.

Zhang Junxiang, deputy secretary and mayor of Toutunhe district, said the new metal materials project will promote the optimization and upgrading of the industry in the area and help create a new industrial system.

The district will continue to promote the project and hopes to realize the benefits as soon as possible, he added.

In recent years, the advanced manufacturing industry in Toutunhe district has achieved rapid development, introducing more than 50 key projects, such as SAIC Volkswagen, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co, China CRRC and Guangzhou Automobile Group, with a total investment of 160 billion yuan. The district hopes to build an advanced manufacturing system supported by wind power, automobiles and high-end equipment manufacturing.
